“Nature morte” fait référence à l’exécution, dans la prison américaine de Sing Sing, de Julius et Ethel Rosenberg, communistes américains accusés d’espionnage atomique au profit de l’URSS en 1953 dans le contexte de la Guerre froide. Jouant de l’anachronisme de ses ressources, Malachi Farrell, met en scène le côté à la fois archaïque et contemporain de la chaise électrique. Il ne cherche pas le réalisme, ni l’exactitude historique, mais l’efficacité visuelle et émotionnelle.

“Nature morte” refers to the execution, in the American prison of Sing Sing, of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg who were American communists accused of atomic espionnage for the USSR in 1953 in the context of the Cold War. Through the anachronism of his resources, Malachi Farrell stages both the archaic and contemporary aspects of the electric chair. He doesn’t aim at being realistic or historically accurate but rather visually and emotionally effective
